Two non-profit organizations, advocate that children become more avid readers, through a contribution of books to the Carriacou Community Library.

The donations from Friends through Books and the Ashby Windward Foundation to librarian Judy Jones were made at a ceremony that was attended by Area Education Officer, Gertrude Simon-Niles. Ms. Simon Niles applauded the efforts of the organizations and implored students to read more, noting that it aids in their overall development.

Friends Through Books was started in 2009 by Americans Graham and Kyle Ashby of Idaho. The interest of the family-run group is improving the lives of students by enhancing learning opportunities through the provision of books and other educational materials.

The Ashby Windward Foundation has been playing a significant role in the lives of the people of Carriacou and Petite Martinique by contributing not just to education, but also to the medical sector. Carriacou’s two secondary schools – Bishop’s College and Hillsborough Secondary – have also been the recipients of education supplies from Friends Through Books and the Ashby Windward Foundation.
